What a conveyancer salary looks like after tax and Medicare
The median full-time conveyancer salary is $1,405 per week, or about $73,060 per year before tax, according to Jobs and Skills Australia.
How to estimate your take-home pay as a conveyancer
If you are a conveyancer in Australia, the amount that lands in your bank account each pay cycle depends on your gross salary, the tax withheld, and the Medicare levy. This guide walks through the latest official pay data and the 2026–27 tax rates so you can work out your own after-tax figure.
The median conveyancer salary
Jobs and Skills Australia reports that the median full-time weekly earnings for conveyancers and legal executives is $1,405 before tax. That works out to about $73,060 a year. This figure is for full-time non-managerial employees paid at the adult rate. It is the most authoritative government source available.
Keep in mind that your actual pay may be higher or lower depending on experience, location, and whether you work in a law firm, a licensed conveyancing business, or in-house for a lender or developer. The mix of residential, commercial, and off-the-plan work also affects fees and therefore your earning potential.
From gross to net: tax and Medicare
For the 2026–27 income year, Australian residents pay tax on a sliding scale. On a taxable income of $73,060, the calculation is:
- Tax on first $18,200: nil
- Tax on $18,201 to $45,000: 15 cents per dollar = $4,020
- Tax on $45,001 to $73,060: 30 cents per dollar = $8,418
- Total income tax: $12,438
The Low Income Tax Offset (LITO) does not apply at this income level because it phases out completely by $66,667.
- Medicare levy: 2% of taxable income = $1,461.20
- Total tax and Medicare: $13,899.20
- Annual take-home pay: $73,060 – $13,899.20 = $59,160.80
That is about $2,275 per fortnight or $1,138 per week.
If your income is lower than the median, you may qualify for a reduced Medicare levy. The latest single-person thresholds are $28,011 and $35,013. If your taxable income is below $28,011 you pay no Medicare levy; between $28,011 and $35,013 you pay a reduced rate of 10 cents per dollar over the lower threshold.
What affects your take-home amount
Your actual take-home pay can differ from this estimate for several reasons:
- Salary packaging: If your employer offers salary packaging (for example, a car or laptop), your taxable income is reduced, which lowers your tax and Medicare.
- HELP/HECS debt: Repayments are calculated on your repayment income and deducted by your employer, reducing your net pay.
- Medicare levy surcharge: If you do not have appropriate private hospital cover and your income is above $93,000 (single), you pay an extra 1% to 1.5%.
- Payroll rounding: Employers use tax tables that may round slightly differently from the annual calculation.
Award coverage and minimum pay
Your employment conditions may be set by an award. Fair Work explains that licensed conveyancers employed by a law firm or conveyancing business are covered by the Legal Services Award. Your classification depends on your duties, skills, qualifications, and experience. Solicitors doing conveyancing work are award-free and entitled only to the national minimum wage and the National Employment Standards.
The national minimum wage from 1 July 2026 is $26.44 per hour and $1,004.90 per week. If you are paid under an award, your minimum hourly rate will be higher than the national minimum.
Super is on top
Employer superannuation is not deducted from your salary. From 1 July 2026 the super guarantee is 12% of your ordinary time earnings, up to a maximum contribution base of $270,830 per year. Your take-home pay is calculated on your salary before super is added.
